Applied Signal Technology, Inc.
Launches Next-Generation Surveillance Product

SUNNYVALE, California, October 2, 2008 – Applied Signal Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: APSG) (AST), a leading provider of advanced signal processing solutions, today launched the first 3G-capable surveillance product that is specifically designed for ground-based tactical operations and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) applications. The RAIDER Model 680 has the ability to support survey requirements for very-high-speed data rates and voice communications as well as process the full spectrum of communication signals with four times the capacity over today’s surveillance technologies.

“The emergence of 3G technology is a major technological and market phenomenon with dynamic projected worldwide growth. As a result, we anticipate the need to recapitalize existing surveillance products within the next few years, and the RAIDER system will be the first 3G-capable surveillance product available,” said Dr. Joseph Leonelli, Vice President of AST’s Intelligence and Electronic Warfare business. “We have made tremendous progress in validating the value and versatility of our surveillance products for many ISR applications. We are confident this new product will provide an effective signal surveillance capability.”

Initial RAIDER product orders have already been secured. The company is currently in discussions with other customers that have expressed a strong interest in its RAIDER product as well as its ROGUE man-pack and HYDRA airborne ISR systems.

AST has invested more than twenty years of research and development in this high-capacity signal surveillance technology to offer a complete line of ISR products for ground-fixed, expeditionary, and airborne missions serving the national security market.
